The Minnesota Twins had multiple opportunities to build a bigger lead, protect said lead, and win game one over the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. They missed those chances and lost on a walk-off groundout from José Abreu in the ninth. Sonny Gray left the game with hamstring tightness and the Twins' bullpen was forced to make up five innings on the backend. It was going well until Caleb Thielbar surrendered a game-tying solo homer to Yasmani Grandal in the eighth. In the ninth, benches cleared as Jorge López hit Andrew Vaughn, loading the bases. The Twins are 67-63 and remain one game back of the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central.
